Hola, my name is Maestra Mara and I am a tutor for Syllable Space. I am a native Spanish speaker from Puerto Rico currently living in Florida, USA. I have been an educator for over 25 years, most recently teaching all levels of Spanish at the High School level. I also possess a Professional Teacher Certificate for Spanish Language from the State of Florida.

My approach to teaching is simple. I will meet you where you are, and we will go from there. We will find out what works and what does not work for you and adjust. My job is to present the target language, “español”, in a comprehensible way while adding slightly more challenging content for you to acquire new language in each class. I did not invent this method of teaching, and it is not new, but it has proven successful. My goal is communication not perfection. Proficiency comes with time and practice.

I wholeheartedly believe that you can do this, I am proof of it. My background includes learning English through my school years and French during my college years. In other words, I have been where you are. And besides, teaching Spanish is what I do every single day.

I welcome students from ages 14 to adults.
